Scottish 18th Century Basket Hilted Sword

Scottish 18th Century Basket Hilted Sword in untouched condition. The hilt of with a dark age patina original leather grip bound with twisted wire, red liner and cone pommel. The blade single edged marked on both sides with G R and crown plus IEFRIS – Thomas Jeffreys London operating in the last quarter of the 18th century. It has a companying letter from the Victoria and Albert Museum dated 1973 confirming the details about the sword and indicating it was possibly one of the first swords issued to the Gordon Highlanders in about 1770
