.450/577 Martini Henry rifle made for Z.A.R. Zuid Africaans Republiek ( Transval or South African Republic of the Boers under President Paul Kruger) Francotte (Liege) detachable lock held in place by large retaining screw, with an integral cocking indicator. Lock marked to the outside “ Made especially for ZAR” on one side and “ Westley Richards & Co” plus Triangular trade mark on the other. Walnut stock with Westley Richards barrel with ladder sights to 2000 yards and is dated to the Knox form 1896 within a triangle. The barrel is marked “Westley Richards & Co” plus” Henry Rifling” and has 9 groove rifling for long range accuracy. Full stocked with Iron furniture, ramrod with broad arrow and crown markings, twin barrel bands, fore-band has bayonet bar and sling swivel, second sling swivel at front end of trigger guard, plus cocking lever. Ser No 26243 marked underside of lock.
