U.S. Allen & Wheelock Patent Rifle 1860

This .41 calibre, drop breech, cartridge, single shot rifle has a part octagonal and part round 23.75” rifled barrel, marked on the top flat with “Allen & Wheelock, Allen’s Pat Sept 1860” The breech is opened by releasing a spring catch and lowering the trigger guard. The angled hammer head falls on the long firing pin which goes through the dropping breech block. The ‘V’ sight plate for this rifle is moved by a side lever on the LHS of the rifle that clicks in and out of 10 range holes from 0-1000 yards, with a blade fore-sight. The rifle also has a flip up circular peep sight, mounted on the butt behind the hammer. This has a release catch to allow the outer ring to be rotated to change range from 100-1600 yards. The steel butt plate has a trap-door to hold the ‘take down’ tool that fits the square nut on the RHS of the breech. The rifles serial number 804 is marked on the trigger guard tang. LOA 1080mm.
