Made by Westley Richards Arms & ammunition Co 1871 for the New South Wales Government. Single shot falling block rifle 50” overall with 33 1/4” short knox form barrel with Birmingham proof marks and marked “ Henrys Patent Rifling”.
Lock plate marked ‘Alex’r Henry’, breech marked on one side with ‘Henrys Patent’ and the other ‘ W.R.A&A Co 1871. Enfield type ladder sight to 1000yds, steel mounts with two barrel bands, front band with bayonet bar and sling swivel, second sling swivel in butt. Walnut full stock stamped N.S.W over rack no 60 and ’S’ with opposing broad arrows ( sold out of service) two stylised initials ‘C J’ carved into other side of butt. The hammer on this rifle is on the left side of the receiver. The falling block lever follows the line of the trigger guard and has a distinctive ‘plunger’ release catch which engages on a hook on the underside of the trigger guard.
