British Cavalry Officer’s Sword Variation by Wilkinson a known pattern but very rare. Steel bowl guard similar to the 1896 pattern hilt with shaped grip with thumb stop, bound halfway with silver wire. Plain domed pommel with wide leather loop under bottom ferrule attached to flat back blade with spear point. It is etched with Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London with Prince of Wales feather on shoulder plus J F Laycock in scroll and numbered 32921 on back edge. Listed in Wilkinson register as special pattern for 10th Hussars but made for Brigadier Joseph Frederick Laycock Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry Cavalry. Similar styles swords that are known are detailed in The British Cavalry Sword 1788 – 1912 page 164 belonging to Major Harrison 11th Hussars and being carried by Earl Haig 7th Queen’s Own Hussars in his equestrian statute in Edinburgh Castle sold with copy of Wilkinson Register
