Scottish Basket Hilt Officer’s Sword


Victorian Boar War period Kings Own Highland Borderers officer’s sword. Regulation officer’s basket hilt sword with steel basket and unusual angled fish skin grip secured by twisted wire and complete with fringe. The straight broad sword double edged blade etched with Kings Own Highland Borderers with VR and crown to reverse and Mortimer George Street Edinburgh complete with leather scabbard with brass mounts. Notes: The regiment was raised on 18 March 1689 by David Melville, 3rd Earl of Leven to defend Edinburgh against the Jacobite forces of James VII.
