WW1 Royal Naval sword is excellent condition, presentation reads, Presented by The Innabitants of Aberporth Lieut E Evans RNR DSO in Recognition of Gallant Service as Master of S S Kingsley. The blade with retails details and proof pluh and numbered 13515 on the spine, complete with officer’s dress knot and scabbard – Notes Evan Evans, DSO, Lieutenant, Royal Naval Reserve. (Aberporth). Evans was a Captain in the Mercantile Marine. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve, and served aboard the steamship SS Kingsley. Evan’s award of the Distinguished Service Order was published in the London Gazette of 5 April 1918, the citation of which read: ‘In recognition of zeal and devotion to duty shown in carrying on the trade of the country during the war.’ An article in the Tivyside reported that the award was for gallantry while defending his ship against a U-Boat attack.
