Brass one piece grip, crossguard and pommel.  Underside of crossguard marked with two inspection stamps plus no 36.  Unusual Gladius type blade with a long central fuller on both sides of the blade.  Ricasso marked Mre IMPale Chatl  8br 1898 plus inspection stamps crown over m and an ‘s’ The other with Troupes a’pied Mle 1831 plus inspection stamps g or 6 or 9. ( Manufactured at Imperial factory Chatellerault October 1898. Troops of Foot model 1831 modified in 1852 ) In itsBrass mounted black leather scabbard.
