French 1771 Eagles-head Artillery Sidearm ( 2nd Pattern) – 40

Made in Klingenthal 1775.  Brass decorated eagle’s head grip and plain crossguard Grip secured with two extensions from the tang into slots on the grip.  Grip also has three dummy rivets.  Steel Gladius type blade with twin and single fullers and marked with Klingenthal 1775 crown over R mark on ricasso.  In its brass mounted black leather scabbard.  Locket has a horizontal slot to take a leather strap to form a belt loop and on the reverse has a triangular mark with a circle inside.  Locket and Chape both secured by being punched through onto the leather.  Length 635mm Blade 484mm.
