British Cavalry Officer’s by Wilkinson Sword No  19509 The sword is in good condition age wear to steel guard with fish skin grip and chequered back strap and pommel. The blade plain maker marked Henry Wilkinson the spine being numbered. It is complete with steel scabbard overall length 40.5 inches the blade 34.25 inch. Notes: Wilkinson register states 19509 W. J. G. Baird 30 Jan. 1874 – Sir William James Gardiner Baird, Baronet [S. 1695], of Saughton Hall, 1st and only surv. s. and h., b 23 Feb. 1854 ; sometime Lieut. 7th Hussars ; suc. to the Baronetcy 6 Jan. 1896 ; Lieut.-Colonel Commanding and Hon. Colonel of the Lothian and Berwick Yeomanry Cavalry. He m. 3 April 1879, at Mandslie Castle, co. Lanark, Arabella Rose Evelyn, 1st da. of William Wallace (Hoziek) 1st Baron Newlands of Newlands and Barrowfield and of Maudslie Castle, by Frances Anne, da. of John O’Hara, of Haheen.”
