Victorian Royal Engineers Officer’s Sword by Henry Wilkinson No 23040 in good condition. Regulation brass hilt with quality decoration, chequered pommel and black fish skin grip bound with gilt wire. The slightly curved blade is deeply engraved with owner’s crest and plaque – Lieutenant Walter Hungerford Pollen. (His younger brother was involved in the Dreadnought project and was a pioneer on Naval gunnery. Lieutenant 6.4.1879, War service Egypt 1882, Looshai (India) 1889, Died Chittagong (India) 1889 while leading a survey party) Plus Royal Engineers with cannon and wings, a V R crown all against a floral background. The blade is marked Henry Wilkinson London and proof mark to reverse. Complete with steel scabbard some age marks with two loose rings and officer’s sword knot
