Italian 16th Century Cinquedea or Short Sword, the 44cm tapering blade with three graduated panels all etched with battle scenes, crests, figure of a nobleman possible Philip II of Spain as he is wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece and holding a baton, lions and stands of arms, please see images. The hilt with down angled crossguard broad flattened pommel with white metal inserts, the grip etched on all four sides with foliage with classical imagery to front and rear. The blade has two panel left blank and the small panel above the profile has been erased but two letter and still be seen R and P. Note the two white metal inlays on the hilt have been added later probably 19th century sold with research
