Gordon Highlanders Officer’s Cased Dirk Set belonging to Col Stewart Lygon Murray. In excellent condition regimental Scottish Officer’s dirk cased and complete with matching Sgian Dubh – Gordon Highlanders silver fitting and maker marked R & H B Kirkwood Edinburgh all stones are matching, dirk of regimental design with Gordon Highlander badge to top scabbard mount with ensuite knife and fork and complete with full dress leather scabbard. The dirk and sgian dubh are presented in a leather case which has been recovered with blue silk lining which is maker marked in gold lettering R & H B Kirkwood Goldsmiths 68 Thistle Street Edinburgh Est 1833 – Overall length 17 inches blade 12 inches no hallmarks but tests as silver. Notes: Col Stewart Lygon Murray (b.1863 d.1930) joined the Gordon Highlanders 2nd Battalion in 1884. He served in the 1st Battalion in Malta for 3 years, Ceylon for 3 years and India for 4 years taking part in the storming of Malakand Pass, Action at Panjkora river and the relief of Chitral in 1985. He returned to the U.K. in 1895. Awarded the India Medal with clasp. Adjutant 2 vol Battalion. Resigned commission 1904. In the reserve of Officers.
