British Royal Naval Submariner Officers Sword. Lieutenant O’Brien was the commanding officer of the HMS B2, one of several submarines participating in Channel exercises off the coast of Dover in the lead-up to the First World War. Regulation sword by Gieves complete with dress knot. The fold down guard named to P B O’Brien the hilt in very good condition and the blade engraved with Kings Crown, Royal Coat of Arms and Fouled Anchor. Complete with black leather scabbard with gilt mounts again in good condition with slight discolour to drag all contained in leather cover. Notes: In the early hours of October 4, 1912, the HMS B2, while surfaced, accidentally collided with the German passenger liner SS Amerika. The collision resulted in the sinking of the submarine and the deaths of 15 crew members, including Lieutenant O’Brien.
