British 1788 Officer’s Sword by Gill but with George Washington head acting as the pommel. Good quality officer’s 1788 style gilt brass hilt the cross guard and langets with line decoration. The grip is bound with silver wire and the pommel in the form of George Washington. The blade slightly curved and ending in a spear point is marked Gill on the spine and inspection mark crown over 8. It is complete with black leather scabbard with matching mounts the top one also marked Gill. It is possible this sword was made or modified for a returning British officer from the 1812 wars.
