American Model 1840 Cavalry Sword one of the military sabres used by U.S. forces before and during the American Civil War. Made by W.R. Kirschbaum of Solingen, Germany, the single-edged blade. The ricasso is marked with the knights head and W.R.K maker’s mark of W.R Kirschbaum of Solingen which puts the date of the Sabres manufacture to between 1854 – 1860 with the spine stamped with inspection mark a crown which is repeated on there brass hilt. Complete with leather bound grip wire missing and black steel scabbard
