A 19th Century French artillery sidearm, broad double edged blade 49cm in length with markings and dated 1817 brass gladius style hilt with roundels to the ends of the quillons, a ribbed grip and a bulbous pommel with cockrel Originally these had a fleur de lys however the ones made during the July Monarchy had the coq pommel adopted by Louis Philippe in 1830. If the blade is dated 1817 which is what it looks like it's really early and will be one revolted after 1830 to recognise the new regime Proof marks are J.I. Krantz (1816-1819) and F.L..Lobstein (1804-1829) and J.G.Bick (1793-1824) died aged 73 in the job having survived Revolution, Empire and Monarchy
